Seeing your take-home pay is a good reality check, but you might be leaving money on the table at tax time. Why use Salary Calculator

  • Converts between all five pay frequencies at once, so offers in different formats become directly comparable.
  • Hours per week and weeks per year are adjustable -- 40/52 is just the default, not the only option.
  • Handles the bi-weekly vs. semi-monthly distinction correctly (26 vs. 24 paychecks), a common pitfall.
  • Freelancers can set actual billable weeks to see the real annual equivalent of their hourly rate.
  • No payroll software login required -- type a number, read the table, close the tab.

How it works

The calculator normalizes any pay amount to an annual figure first, then derives every other frequency from it. If you enter an hourly rate, the annual salary is hourlyRate * hoursPerWeek * weeksPerYear. Monthly divides the annual total by 12. Bi-weekly divides by 26. Weekly divides by the configured weeks per year. Hourly divides the annual figure by total work hours (hoursPerWeek * weeksPerYear). Defaults are 40 hours per week and 52 weeks per year (2,080 annual hours), but both can be adjusted for part-time, freelance, or unpaid-leave scenarios. Results are rounded to two decimal places.

About this tool

Comparing a $95,000 salaried role against a $48/hour contract? Enter either number and this calculator converts it to annual, monthly, bi-weekly, weekly, and hourly equivalents so you can compare apples to apples. Set your hours per week and weeks per year to match your actual situation -- the defaults are 40 and 52, but freelancers working 30-hour weeks for 45 weeks get a very different picture. The math is multiplication and division, but the details trip people up. Bi-weekly pay divides by 26, not 24 (that is semi-monthly). A company that gives three weeks unpaid leave means 49 paid weeks, not 52. This calculator lets you adjust those variables so the numbers reflect reality. Useful during job negotiations, freelance rate-setting, and headcount budgeting alike.

How to use Salary Calculator

  1. Enter your pay amount. Type the number from your offer letter, invoice, or paycheck.
  2. Select the frequency. Tell the calculator whether that number is annual, monthly, bi-weekly, weekly, or hourly.
  3. Adjust your schedule. Change hours per week or weeks per year if you work part-time, freelance, or have unpaid leave.
  4. Read the comparison table. Every frequency appears side by side: annual, monthly, bi-weekly, weekly, daily, and hourly.

Use cases

  • Got two job offers -- one quoting $95,000/year and the other $48/hour? Convert both to the same frequency and the comparison takes ten seconds.
  • Freelancing at $75/hour for 30 hours a week, 45 weeks a year. What is the salaried equivalent? Set those two fields and see the annual figure immediately.
  • Negotiating your first salary out of college -- convert the $58,000 offer to its bi-weekly and hourly equivalents to see if the paycheck covers your monthly budget.

Frequently Asked Questions

Multiply your hourly rate by the number of hours you work per week, then multiply by the number of weeks you work per year. For example, $25/hour × 40 hours × 52 weeks = $52,000 per year. Use this calculator for instant conversions.

Divide your annual salary by the number of working hours per year. For a standard schedule: $52,000 ÷ (40 hours × 52 weeks) = $25 per hour. Adjust the hours and weeks to match your actual work schedule.

Bi-weekly pay means you are paid every two weeks, resulting in 26 paychecks per year. This is different from semi-monthly pay (twice per month, 24 paychecks). To convert annual salary to bi-weekly, divide by 26.

A standard full-time work year is 2,080 hours (40 hours per week × 52 weeks). If you take vacation or unpaid time off, adjust the weeks per year. For example, with 2 weeks of unpaid leave: 40 × 50 = 2,000 hours.

Gross pay is your total earnings before deductions. Take-home pay (net pay) is what you receive after federal and state taxes, Social Security, Medicare, health insurance, retirement contributions, and other deductions are subtracted.

For part-time work, adjust the hours per week to match your schedule. For example, if you work 20 hours per week at $25/hour: $25 × 20 × 52 = $26,000 per year. The calculator handles any hours-per-week value.

Depends entirely on location and cost of living. The US median household income is roughly $75,000.

Standard overtime is 1.5× your regular hourly rate for hours over 40 per week. To estimate, calculate your regular pay first, then add overtime hours × 1.5 × hourly rate separately. This calculator shows base pay conversions.
